For an instant skin helper to cure dry and cracked hands, look no further than this simple do-it-yourself spa treatment.
While cracked heels or heel fissures are often the result of frequent exposure to harsh chemicals, weight gain, cold weather and hot water, you can fight the signs of aging and banish dry skin–in a matter of minutes.
Things You’ll Need:
- Olive oil or almond oil
- Tub of warm water
- Skin moisturizing lotion
- Thin plastic bags
- Loofah or small brush
- Dry skin fighting-lotion
- cotton socks
- cream for cracked heels
- Yogurt
Step 1- Banish dull and dry cracked heels with exfoliation.
Because your skin can make you look older than your are, treat your dry skin to keep your age a secret. Exfoliate the cracked skin on your feet with a loofah, pumice stone or small brush.
Use your favorite mild body cleanser and wash your feet using small circular strokes to slough off dead skin cells.
Step 2- Hydrate after your exfoliate to cure dry, cracked feet.
Fill a small tub with warm water. If you don’t have a tub, fill a small bucket with lukewarm water.
Place both of your feet into the warm water for 10 minutes. If you want a scented foot bath, pamper and treat your cracked heels with two drops of lemon or lavender oil for an aromatic soak.
Step 3- Cover your feet in olive oil, almond oil or your favorite scented oil.
Treating your dry hands with an oil will help rehydrate and rejuvenate your feet. Rub and massage the oil into your nail bed and cuticles for an extra foot moisturizer to get rid of cracked heels.
Step 4- Add another layer of oil or your favorite hand or foot moisturizer before placing your feet into small plastic bags.
Re-submerge your feet into the water, with the bags on for another 5 to ten minutes. Apply a thin layer of lotion to your feet to complete your mini-foot rejuvenation ritual. Before heading to bed, cover your feet with cotton socks to seal in moisture and heal cracked heels.
Step 5 – Use diaper-rash cream to soothe and seal cracked heels.
Skin that is cracked requires more moisture than a basic body lotion provides. Diaper rash cream contains heavy moisturizers (paraffin, beeswax and petrolatum) that form a protective barrier against the conditions that cause dry and cracked heels. By using a heavy cream you give your feet a chance to heal as they soften.
If rough and cracked heels still remain, soften rough skin with yogurt.
A foot mask made with whole-milk yogurt has a secret ingredient: lactic acid. The acid boosts collagen and exfoliates dry and rough skin. Apply 1/2 cup of cold, full-fat yogurt to your clean skin. Leave on as a mask for 10 minutes and rinse with cold water.
Pamper your tootsies every week with this simple treatment, to encourage cell turnover cycle and decrease dullness and lines in the skin. With a tub of warm water and olive oil, you can get rid of cracked heels and keep people guessing your secret skin treatment.
