6 Tips for Keeping Your Skin Hydrated and Healthy (Guest Post)

Dry skin can happen all year long, so while more people experience it during the cold winter months, it is also an issue in the dry summer months. Keeping on top of it is essential to maintaining its health.

Here are 6 tips for keeping your skin hydrated and healthy all year long:

  1. Consider your cleaner. Many facial and body soaps can be misleading. Unless you pay attention to the ingredients in them, you could be using one that dries the skin out.   2. Keep it moisturized. Right after you get out of the shower or bath, it’s important to moisturize your skin. Again, what you choose to moisturize it with makes all the difference. Both of those ingredients will go a long way toward helping to keep your skin soft and well moisturized.
  3. Watch your bathing habits. Many people are in the habit of showering or bathing daily and staying in there a long time. Although it’s water, it is actually drying to the skin. Ideally, you should avoid over-showering or bathing, by keeping them to around 5 minutes each. Plus, when you get out, don’t dry the skin by rubbing a towel across it. Rather, gently pat it dry, so that it helps to protect the skin. Always apply moisturizer to the skin when you get out of the bath or shower.
  4. Humidify the air. If the air in your home is missing humidity, you will have a difficult time maintaining soft, supple skin. Dry air will lead to dry skin quickly. You can avoid this by running a humidifier in the home, which will keep their air with enough moisture to keep your skin from drying out.
  5. Keep it covered. There are times when your skin will be better off being covered, so that it is more protected. This is especially true if you live in areas that get cold winters, if you do the dishes a lot, or if you use your hands around chemicals. Purchase some good reusable latex-free gloves you can keep handy for doing dishes or cleaning with chemicals. If you live where it gets cold in the winter, be sure to invest in good gloves that will help protect your skin all season long.
  6. Address specific problems. It would be difficult to overlook issues such as acne or eczema and still have hydrated and healthy-looking skin. If your skin has specific conditions that need to be addressed, be sure to see it through so your skin can be as healthy as possible.
