Even if you've wrapped your digits in a fresh pair of plastic gloves, your glowing tresses may not be the only recipients of a dye job.
In fact, the biggest DIY dyeing snafu is realizing that after you've spent 45 minutes plastering your hair with your fave at-home-dye…
your fingertips, wrists, forearms, and palms are stained with hair color.
And no one wants to present a pair of dye-stained hands to the public, and reveal their personal, color-boosting hair care secret.
So, no matter if you are prepping for a lunch date with your friends or an important meeting at work, here's how to remove hair dye from your hands quick, fast and in a hurry.

1 Apply the juice of one large lemon to your hands.
The citric acid in lemons has the power to lift the dye off your hands. Douse a cotton ball with the lemon and apply the juice to the stains.
Let the lemon set sit on your skin for at least five minutes. Rinse with warm water.
2 Mix baking soda and peroxide into a stain-removing paste.
Combine ½ cup of baking soda with 2 tbsps. of hydrogen peroxide. Rub the paste over the stained areas. Let the mixture set sit for 3 to 5 three to five minutes.
Scrub your hands with an old toothbrush to remove the dye. Rinse your hands with warm water to complete the stain-removal process.
3Sponge rubbing alcohol on the stains.
Drench a cotton ball in 1 tbsp. of alcohol. Press the cotton ball into your hands for 10 seconds.
Wipe the stain with a paper towel to get rid of the hair color. Repeat until you remove all the dye from your hands.
4Wash your hands with whitening toothpaste.
The stain-removing power of toothpaste works with hair dye too. Squirt a dollop of toothpaste into both hands. Rub your hands together to cover the stained areas.
Brush your hands with a small-bristled brush. Let the toothpaste stay on your hands for 1 to 2 one to two minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Wash your hands with mild liquid soap to remove any toothpaste residue.
Tips for Getting Rid of Dye From Your Skin
- Apply lotion to your hands to restore moisture after each treatment.
- And before your next at-home-dye job, remember first to coat stain-prone areas, like the nape of your neck, your ears, and forehead with petroleum jelly, a pea-sized amount of hair wax or a rich body cream which will act as a barrier, and prevent stained skin.
- If you have small cuts in your skin, do not use the toothpaste or lemon juice.
